Biblical Books for Children

ILLUSTRATION

Welcome to my thinking space... mums with busy homes, who want to make books, need somewhere to store their ideas, scribbles, illustrations and mistakes.  I use the upstairs room in a little stone building in our back yard... known as the Barnloft.

(barnloft@hotmail.co.uk)

Coloured pencils are very versatile; they allow me the control of a pen along with the vibrant colour usually associated with paint.  They can be picked up for ten minutes, dropped when the phone rings... and the colours remain unfaded for years when the pages are sprayed with fixative and stored in plastic wallets.

I prefer Caran d'ache Classicolor pencils because their harder leads maintain a sharp point for longer, although recently I have also experimented with other varieties.  I usually draw on A3 size paper so that I can include enough detail to make the subject interesting for children.

An exciting point in making a book is the moment a 'just finished' illustration appears on the computer screen, via a scanner, into the middle of a page layout... I hope I never lose the thrill of it!

I sometimes illustrate for others.  Please see the side link for further detail.
